City Selects Tonka Water BLEU™ Underdrain

Tonka Water has been chosen for the refurbishment of the City's existing treatment system in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. This project will include a renovated surface water treatment system including the Tonka Water BLEU™ stainless steel underdrain, along with the innovative Simul-Wash™ washwater conservation system.

Tonka Water's BLEU™ underdrain replaces the current underdrain in order to extend the usable life of the filter. This stainless steel underdrain has a dual chambered design with air located externally eliminating all filtration dead zones.

Retrofit Radium Removal Project in Mertzon, TX has been Commissioned

A Tonka Water retrofit project has been commissioned in Mertzon, Texas. The project includes the addition of TonkaBlend™/TonkaZorb™ for optimal feeding of hydrous manganese oxide (HMO) for radium removal. Mertzon marks the second HMO facility in the State of Texas.

Tonka Water Project Featured in Ohio AWWA Spring Newsletter

The Archbold, Ohio project was recently featured in the OH AWWA spring newsletter highlighting Tonka Water's role in providing anion exchange treatment. 

This project is Tonka Water's  first Ohio Organix™ system installation. The Organix™ system removes TOC in the community's surface water supply and is designed to treat 2,083 gallons per minute. Organix™ was found to be the most cost effective solution for this challenging surface water.

Tonka Water Awarded Contract for Water Treatment System in New Mexico

Tonka Water has been awarded a recent project for a UTS™ package surface water treatment plant in Chama, New Mexico. This Unitized Treatment System (UTS™) combines flocculation, sedimentation and filtration for turbidity removal in one space-efficient, packaged unit. This system includes Tonka Water’s Simul-Wash™ backwash system, providing optimal media cleansing while saving thousands of gallons of waste washwater. This project will expand the plant, doubling the plant’s output of the original Tonka Water UTS™ installed in 1997.

Tonka Water Commissions Treatment System in Missouri

Tonka Water Introduces BLEU Underdrain

Tonka Water is pleased to announce another revolutionary new product, the BLEU™ underdrain. BLEU™ is a Blockless Engineered Underdrain and can be combined with Tonka Water’s Simul-Wash™, plate settlers and other products to offer a complete treatment system with guaranteed results. 

“Our customers needed a new approach for concrete filters, and our engineering team designed and developed a low profile, modular underdrain system with flexibility for different basin sizes and profiles,” said Steve Kari, Vice President of Engineering. “This product combines our new gravel-less underdrain design with proven airwash distribution, and integrates beautifully with our Simul-wash™ backwash system for superior performance and cleaning.”

The BLEU™ underdrain is the lowest profile to other stainless steel or block systems on the market.  BLEU™ laterals are durably manufactured with stainless steel and are designed to sustain pressure surges with no damage to the system.  Even flow distribution with no dead zones between laterals is achieved because the air scour is located outside of the underdrain, on the concrete floor.  Simultaneous air and water create a collapse pulse action throughout the filter which fully and effectively cleans filter media, resulting in longer media life and lower operational costs. 

Prior to our first installation in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, the BLEU™ underdrain design was independently verified using Computational Fluid Dynamic Modeling (CFD) demonstrating that it performs well within industry mal-distribution tolerances.
