Membrane Expansion Project in Gwinner, ND Commissioned

The Gwinner, ND treatment plant was recently commissioned with both refurbished and new Tonka Water equipment to increase treatment capacity by 50%. This expanded membrane softening system includes the addition of filtration capacity and the refurbishment of existing filters. New membrane skids and a degasifier replaced the original equipment- all furnished and guaranteed by Tonka Water.

Tonka Water Awarded Project for Water Treatment Plant Expansion in West Carteret, NC

Tonka Water Awarded Contract for Water Treatment System in Illinois

Tonka Water Selected to Provide Water Treatment System in Pemberville, OH

Tonka Water has been awarded the equipment supply for a water treatment project in Pemberville, Ohio. This ion exchange water treatment plant will provide softening to the community water supply, using Tonka Water’s compact ion exchange technology providing the lowest waste volumes of all treatment options considered. We are excited to begin this second project with the City of Pemberville.

Tonka Water Awarded Contract in Elkhorn, WI

Tonka Water will be providing Elkhorn, Wisconsin with a new water treatment system. The plant features two Tonka Water technologies: a customized Dualator® III incorporating aeration, detention and filtration in a single unit; and an ion exchange system. The Dualator® III will treat iron, manganese and arsenic. The Ion Exchange system will remove radium and soften the water. Elkhorn has been a long- time customer of Tonka Water, beginning with its first project in 1978. This will be Tonka Water's fifth project with the city.

Horizontal Pressure Filter and Ion Exchange System Commissioned in Ohio

Tonka Water recently commissioned an iron and manganese removal water treatment plant in Baltimore, Ohio. This system is comprised of an isolated cell horizontal pressure filter followed by an ion exchange softening system.  The Tonka Water isolated cell horizontal pressure filter is a prudent equipment option that affords operational flexibility with a compact, efficient footprint.  Isolating individual cells within the filters allows a plant operator to backwash or takes one cell off-line while continuing to treat water in the other cells - all the while keeping the plant operating at full capacity.

Tonka Water’s Cost-effective Delivered Treatment System Operational in South Carolina

A plant recently commissioned in Aiken, South Carolina features Tonka Water’s Ion Exchange and unique Delivered Treatment System, or DTS. The DTS is a fully factory-installed water treatment building that is delivered for utility hook-up by installing contractor – saving thousands of dollars over conventional “stick-built” structures. The Aiken DTS removes radium as is softens the City’s water.

Tonka Water has recently been awarded the construction of a large industrial water clarifier system in Texas. This lime softening clarifier is one of the largest in Tonka Water's prolific installation base with a diameter of just under 60 feet!

Tonka Ion Exchange system makes a difference in Morehead City, NC

Morehead City recently dedicated a new water treatment plant featuring Tonka Ion Exchange for softening, color and TOC reduction. Interested citizens, community leaders and medical professionals attended the open house. The City was pleased to add this improvement to one of their most essential citizen services – an abundant, appealing, and healthful drinking water supply.

Background

Morehead City’s water supply comes from groundwater wells and contains minerals that create a hard scale in the pipelines. It also contains naturally occurring color that is noticeable in bathtubs, pools, and in drinking cups. For treatment of the hardness and color, Tonka provided three ion exchange vessels using solar salt to produce softened water, and three ion exchange vessels to decolorize the water and remove materials that had the potential to form disinfection byproducts. The facility was designed by McDavid Associates of Farmville, NC.

Ion exchange—an innovative and unique treatment solution

Other communities with similar water typically have used a different process —either activated carbon or reverse osmosis. By contrast, ion exchange uses less than a third of the energy and conserves much more of the water drawn from Morehead City’s wells. From an environmental perspective, the ion exchange process is more energy efficient, the salt used in the system is non-toxic, naturally abundant, and is produced by solar evaporation. A winning combination for

the City!

Positive results enjoyed by all

The positive effect on the community was almost immediate. The local hospital noticed that the cost of assuring high purity water for their instruments and treatment practices dropped in half. Local residents voiced their pleasure about having soft decolorized water. The difference between the well water and the finished water was remarkable. During the peak tourist season, the water plant produces 1,200,000 gallons per day of softened, decolorized water. The Tonka ion exchange system achieves the water quality required by the City of Morehead with a cost-effective, environmentally sound solution.
