Tonka Water to Provide Refurbishment in Boca Raton, FL

Tonka Water Selected for Expansion in Palm Beach County

Tonka Water was recently awarded a project for a 20 million gallon a day (MGD) expansion of an existing 10 MGD Tonka Water Organix™ ion exchange system in Palm Beach County, FL. Designed by GlobalTech, Inc of Boca Raton, FL, the expansion brings total organics removal capacity at Water Treatment Plant #8 to 30 MGD. The addition of 14 vessels assures the county of a reliable means to consistently treat their total organic carbon (TOC) to less than 3 mg/L and color to less than 5 color units.

 

Palm Beach County initially installed and commissioned a Tonka Water Organix™ ion exchange system downstream from lime softening in 2008 to address issues with total organic carbon (TOC), disinfection byproduct precursors (DBPs), and excessive color in their finished water. Rated at 10 MGD, this original seven-vessel system has since performed exceptionally well and is a proven, consistent and reliable process for the county to meet water quality requirements. As a county owned and operated facility, staff have prioritized proper operations and maintenance, leading to successful treatment.

 

Pleased with the performance of the initial system, the decision was made by the county to commit to additional ion exchange capacity for TOC and color removal. Throughout the design phase, Tonka Water assisted in designing what would become a cost effective addition of fourteen vessels and 20 MGD of treatment capacity. New innovations were incorporated into the system design ensuring efficient, state of the art cleaning and regeneration. The new system is on target to be commissioned in 2017, and once completed, the twenty-one vessel, 30 MGD capacity system at Water Treatment Plant #8 will stand alone as the largest municipal ion exchange system for organics removal or otherwise, in the United States.

Tonka Water Selected to Provide Nanofiltration System in Miamisburg, OH

Tonka Water has been chosen to provide a nanofiltration (NF) membrane water treatment system for Miamisburg, Ohio. Tonka Water worked closely with the engineer to meet the client’s site-specific needs and operational requirements. NF offers increased efficiency and no concentrated brine waste compared to other softening processes such as traditional ion exchange and lime softening technology. With a flow rate of 3,760gpm the plant will receive fully assembled, plug and play system skids, making installation simple and straight forward.

Tonka Water Selected to Provide Biological Water Treatment System in Minnesota

Tonka Water is pleased to announce a new water treatment plant in St. Martin, Minnesota. This system will include Tonka Water’s unique biological treatment process for the treatment of iron and ammonia; with a final-stage GreensandPlus™ filter for manganese removal. This system integrates both biological and conventional treatment methods providing an optimized and robust solution for ammonia-laden groundwater. In addition, Tonka Water’s Simul-Wash™ backwash process is included, allowing for improved cleaning, minimizing both filter head loss and water use over the life of the facility.

Colorado Community Chooses Tonka Water

Tonka Water was recently selected for a water treatment project in Highland Lakes, Colorado. Two ion exchange reaction vessles with resin media will be provided to remove nitrates in the community water supply. Tonka Water has been awarded a recent project for a UTS™ package surface water treatment plant in Chama, New Mexico. This Unitized Treatment System (UTS™) combines flocculation, sedimentation and filtration for turbidity removal in one space-efficient, packaged unit. This system includes Tonka Water’s Simul-Wash™ backwash system, providing optimal media cleansing while saving thousands of gallons of waste washwater. This project will expand the plant, doubling the plant’s output of the original Tonka Water UTS™ installed in 1997.

Surface Water Treatment Plant in Oklahoma Commissioned

A water treatment plant upgrade has recently been commissioned in Oklahoma which will utilize a Tonka Water RotaClear™ for the clarification process.  Tonka Water's RotaClear™ clarifier provides enhanced solids contact clarification with a single drive component, eliminating undue system complexity. A Tonka Water GVS Dual media gravity filter will follow the clarification step and includes our Simul-Wash backwash process for savings of up to 50% of the backwash waste water.

Membrane News: Tonka Water's Fountain Hills Facility Featured in WE&T Magazine

A recent Tonka Water wastewater treatment plant was featured in WE&T magazine highlighting a recent project in Fountain Hills, AZ. This plant was struggling with aging microfiltration membranes and experiencing pitting and leaks. A new ultrafiltration system by Tonka Water increased capacity and reduced backwash and maintenance needs.

When the Fountain Hills (Ariz.) Sanitary District advanced water treatment facility went into operation in 2001, its design life was expected to be 10 years. So in 2013, it came as no surprise that the facility's microfiltration system began experiencing problems that required regular maintenance.

Newly Commissioned Plant in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico with Tonka Water's BLEU™ Underdrain

A plant recently commissioned in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico features Tonka Water's BLEU™ underdrain. This innovative stainless steel, media retention underdrain is paired with Tonka Water's efficient Simul-Wash™ backwash system. Completing the system is Tonka Water's flocculation baffles and sludge blow-down system.

Tonka Water Provides Retrofit in Mertzon, TX

Tonka Water is pleased to announce the award of a recent project in Mertzon, Texas. This project will extend life to the water treatment system and includes the addition of TonkaBlend™/TonkaZorb™ for optimal feeding of hydrous manganese oxide (HMO) in radium removal. Mertzon is the second HMO facility in the state of Texas and Tonka Water is excited to be a part of this project.

Tonka Water to Provide Water Treatment System for Tuckerman, AR

Tonka Water is pleased to have been selected to provide a customized induced draft aerator and steel gravity filter system to treat the municipal water supply in Tuckerman, Arkansas. This iron and manganese removal system included refurbishments by Tonka Water of an existing clarifier, and represents state-of-the-art technology for treating the well water source.
