NOW HIRING Full-Time Shop Manager

Tonka Water is seeking an individual experienced in industrial steel fabrication and quality inspection services to lead our team of inspectors and installers.

   • At least five years heavy industrial steel fabrication and/or inspection experience
   • Four year college degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Business Management, or Construction Engineering
   • Minimum three years supervisory/management experience in a manufacturing environment
   • Ability to read and interpret prints
   • Familiarity with ASME code
   • Ability to travel
   • Knowledge of safety programs
   • Ability to identify and implement process improvements
   • Ability to schedule and meet commitments for a diverse group of shop fabrication tasks 


   • High integrity and able to exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion

   • Good verbal and written communication skills    • Active listening skills
   • Strong math aptitude 
   • Excellent computer skills:
          o Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
          o Database management and reports
          o Able to learn Tonka systems
            (Job Center Database, Customer Service Database, ADP timesheets, MAS90 software, etc.)
   Maintains good working relationship with employees, management and outside stakeholders 
   Effective problem-solving skills. 
   Uses company resources in a cost-efficient manner
   Good time management and organizational skills 
   • Good customer service skills
   • General shop skills of mechanical assembly, PVC assembly, etc.
   • Clean driving record and ability to drive company truck or rental vehicle as required
   • Ability to travel by air or car, domestic or international
   • Comprehensive blueprint reading skills, including thorough understanding of dimensioning and tolerances
   • Experience in inspection functions
   • Diagnoses and solve problems using root cause analysis techniques

Supervisor Skills/Knowledge:

   • Obligation to know and understand the individual working styles of all direct reports
   • Map career paths for direct reports, create training plans, and document progress
   • Perform reviews and create performance improvement plans (PIP) in a timely manner
   • Hold periodic PIP reviews (quarterly or as required) followed by formal documentation
   • Establish and practice delegation and appropriate use of authority
   • Work in a team atmosphere with all employees
   • Give meaningful department input to corporate goals and objectives
   • Act as a role model by exhibiting ethical behavior and positive attitude
   • Hold regular department meetings with pre-published agendas, follow-up notes, and action item tracking
   • Quarterly prepare departmental report to Senior Managers
   • Develop, monitor, and manage labor and expense budgets
   • Enforce company policies consistently across the department
   • Address personnel issues in a timely manner
   • Foster and promote a working environment of continuous improvement


   • Set and communicate expectations for shop employees
   • Provide leadership, direction and oversight to shop employees for all shop responsibilities
         o Hire competent employees as needed
         o Oversee training of shop employees; including forklift, confined space, safety, etc.
         o Conduct employee reviews and assists them in setting and achieving goals for their development
         o Approve shop employees’ timesheets and expenses
         o Review and approve travel plans and expenses for all shop employees
         o Set department schedule, assigns work and determines staffing levels
         o Oversee shop calendar
         o Develop agenda and chairs shop meetings
         o Manage vehicle maintenance and replacement
         o Manage inventory with assistance from purchasing
         o Work in MAs90, JCDB, CSDB, ADP, etc. as appropriate
